Drill Rod Connection Specification Checklist
Connection compatibility comes first
A drill rod quotation should begin with the exact thread and mating components. A familiar trade name is useful, but photographs, measurements or a drawing reduce the risk of confusing similar connections.
Dimensions to confirm
- Thread family, pin or box and reference drawing
- Outside diameter and wall thickness
- Overall length and usable working length
- Upset, friction-weld or integral construction requirement
- Wrench flats, shoulder and sealing features
- Required sub, coupling or adapter interfaces
Match the rod to the system
Send the rig model, rotary head connection, drilling method, hole diameter, target depth and handling limits. For DTH work, include the hammer top connection and air path. For rotary water-well or exploration work, include the circulation and tool interfaces.
Record operating conditions
Torque, pullback, feed, bending, rod handling and formation can influence the string. The final specification should be reviewed against the equipment and project rather than chosen only by outside diameter.
Order release checklist
Confirm the drawing or dimensional record, material or process requirement, quantity, marking, packaging and any inspection document before production. Keep the confirmed specification with the purchase order for later replacement and after-sales review.
