Hard Sandstone & Dolomite Coring: 94 mm Double-Tube PDC Bit

Project conditions

• Location: Pidu District, Chengdu, Sichuan, China
• Formation: Hard sandstone, conglomerate, siliceous limestone and dolomite
• Drilling rigs: XY-2 and 1TD
• Drilling tool: 94 mm FS spiral double-tube PDC core bit

Observed result

One bit completed 180 meters with good core recovery. A second bit reached 171 meters with limited wear and remained in usable condition according to the recorded feedback.

What this case shows

Core recovery and tool life must be evaluated together. Barrel configuration, operating parameters and formation changes should be reviewed before applying this result to another project.
