Selection begins with the formation description

Rock name alone is rarely enough. Record strength, abrasiveness, fracture, weathering, inclusions, water conditions and changes down the hole. The same nominal formation can drill very differently when integrity and circulation change.

Compare product families before models

  • PDC: discuss cutter exposure, blade count, face profile, waterways, body protection and core requirement.
  • DTH: match hammer, shank, bit diameter, face and buttons with the compressor and rock.
  • Tricone: compare TCI and milled-tooth structures, bearing, connection and operating window.
  • Drill string: verify exact thread, OD, wall, length and compatibility with the rig and tool.
  • Rig: confirm drilling method, depth, diameter, rotary range, feed, pullback and support equipment.

Use a structured enquiry

  1. Describe the project objective and required result.
  2. List formation intervals and known problem zones.
  3. State the finished hole diameter, depth and inclination.
  4. Identify the rig, compressor, pump and current drill string.
  5. Confirm connection, circulation and casing requirements.
  6. Add quantity, destination, schedule and documentation needs.

Avoid direct performance guarantees from unrelated cases

A published case can demonstrate that a configuration has worked under recorded conditions. It cannot guarantee penetration or service life in a different formation, rig or operating window. Compare the differences and ask technical sales to explain which variables are likely to matter.

Final confirmation

Before ordering, confirm the released drawing or specification, connection, quantity, marking, packaging and agreed inspection evidence. Keep this information aligned with the quotation and purchase order.
